Late May 2010: The Microfinance Conference USA has just concluded and Copernicus Fund now feels like it could really become a reality. I attended the conference for a number of reasons- to hear the history of microfinance directly from key players and to see how microfinance was emerging as a force for community change on the domestic stage. But fundamentally I was interested to spend two days learning from and listening to microfinance practitioners and policy makers to see if they would frighten me away from starting my own microfinance institution.
I’m so pleased to say they haven’t. Copernicus Fund is going to be a small, lean organization that helps Bay Area entrepreneurs get off the ground.
